Posada Esperanza Residents

Residents at Posada Esperanza are single immigrant women and their children. Many of the women have found themselves homeless after escaping from a domestic violence situation. They often lack a support network of family and friends. Without a social security number and with limited English proficiency, they are restricted to irregular and low-paying jobs like cleaning houses and taking care of other people’s children. Their situation is complicated by the fact that single mothers are only able to work when their own children are in school, or when childcare has been secured. The women rely on public transportation, additionally limiting their work flexibility. Posada Esperanza has created its programs to help remove the barriers these women face in achieving self-sufficiency.
