May 2021 – Our first Convivio after Covid:

Gathering every last Sunday of the month is one thing we missed the most during the pandemic at Casa Marianella. Over the years, Convivio has grown into a wide ranging community event, encompassing food, music and dancing. We love to gather the Casa community to create an experience that includes cultural traditions from around the world.

Our beloved Grants Manager, Karen, shared her experience at the one of the first gatherings since Covid:

“I stayed fairly isolated during COVID-19, and Convivio was one of the things I missed the most. My teenage daughter and I went to June Convivio and it was like coming home. Shortly after I arrived, I was introduced to a young man from Central America who had just arrived at Casa. It was his 18th birthday. Casa accepting him as a resident meant that he would not be transferred to adult detention. Sometimes I take Casa Marianella for granted, but this reminded me why Casa is so amazing. Casa has welcomed dozens of 18 year old teens when adult immigration detention is the only other option. Casa being Casa, Convivio included three birthday cakes for his celebration. We joked that he party was just for him.”

Below we’ve shared a few fun photos from the first Convivio since Covid started. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did 🙂

Join us every last Sunday of the month for Convivio at Casa Marianella, from 6-8pm!
